my, your, mine… and 's

Saying who things belong to.

  • Before a noun: my, your, his, her, its, our, their — my car.
  • Without a noun: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs — The car is mine.
  • For people, add 's: Tom's car. Plural nouns ending in -s add only the apostrophe: my parents' house.
  • Don't confuse its (possessive) and it's (= it is).
